About the Centre
The Centre is an attached unit of Western
Springs College that works with young people from over forty Auckland secondary
schools.
The young people have been referred by
these schools or other agencies because their behaviour is causing concern at
their high schools. They need time-out to change their behaviours.
Major
Aim of the Centre

Referrals
All students referred must be on the roll
of a regular high school. The referring school should have tried some community
and/or educational resources available to meet the student’s needs before making
referral to the Centre.
Schools, family or other agencies may
request a preliminary interview. If the student and family want to pursue
acceptance at the Centre, they are required to ask for an interview at which
time a referral must be completed by the student’s school on a form that is
available from the Centre.
Following the interview, the student,
his/her family and the Centre staff decide whether the Centre is the appropriate
option for the student.
What do
we do?
We assess students’ abilities and needs
then develop a programme to suit.
Academic assistance is given while each
student works on subjects sent and marked by the Correspondence School in
Wellington.
A personal and caring atmosphere is
developed in which students can feel supported in their endeavour to change.
